Media Boosters of the Status Quo Shouldn't Complain About Tax Rate Increases

Hey, Yupette,

I just read $cott McCaffrey's annoyed comments about the County Board's proposed 1.5 cent tax rate increase. What a hoot. Same old $ara$ota $cott who never saw a proposal, activity, program, personal, corporate, non-profit, or government agenda, he didn't want to promote via his Inside Nova blog and Sun Gazette newspaper? Starting with Frank O'Leary's car tax decal design competition that's not only illegal but has mushroomed into an annual festival costing the taxpayers several hundred thousand dollars. Sheesh.

While $cott's expressing his annoyance with the County Board and its proposed tax rate increase he's been preparing to join APS's winter junket to San Diego for the coronation of Coach Patrick Murphy as National School Superintendent of the Year. How much did that P.R. campaign cost taxpayers? Maybe $cott can find out when he's out wining and dining with APS's VIPs.

I have to agree with what I  hear around the County: "The waste in Arlington County Government could fund the operation of two small counties downstate, and the waste in APS could fund the school systems in those counties".

Thanks for your blog.

"Gimme Gang"? Try Scott's Chamber of Commerce buds who hit on the County Board for zoning change gimmes on Saturday.

Has there ever been a "Gimme" for Arlington businesses that Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee Member McCaffrey has opposed?

Yes, Chamber's Executive Committee recently ruled it's not allowed for the Chamber's VIP Members to pick their golf balls up in a sand trap and throw the onto the green during the Chamber's annual Golf Gala.

Chamber's Executive Committee also recently instructed Members to refrain from staring at the Chamber President's chest.

Isn't the Chamber's Annual Gala about to occur? Maybe Scott can lobby the County Board directly to spare his homestead from a tax increase.

It gets worse. ACTA President Tim Wise was sleeping in the back of the County Board Room while the C.B. increased the tax rate. Where were tne Tea Party big mouths when it came to actually speaking out against the tax-borrow-spend regime?

Another Big Mouth, Audrey Clement, was also sleeping on the back benches.

If McCaffrey had bothered to attend last week's School Board meeting he would have known that the S.B. was confident the C.B. would go along with its request for a 2-cent real estate tax increase.

Pat Murphy is laughing all the way to his taxpayer-funded coronation.

$cott, didn't your buds who are Chamber members see a DECREASE in their commercial assessments this year?

Scott will be grazing at the free-lunch gourmet buffet with the other newsies, before, during, and after Pat Murphy's coronation ceremony

Tim Wise is another do-nothing together with his fellow do-nothings at the Civic Federation.

Yesterday McCaffrey complained about taxes increasing for homeowners. Today he's boosting a bailout for the Artisphere.

McCaffrey is completely dedicated to preserving the status quo in Arlington. Look at what he features. Top 3 in the County Board office earn almost $1 million / year in wages and benefits among them and refuse to live in Arlington. County Board is about to hire a new police chief and community planning housing and development director who also don't live in Arlington.

McCaffrey is promoting the coronation of APS Supe Patrick Murphy as National School Superintendent of the year, and Murphy's APS PR campaign cost taxpayers at least $3 million over the past 2 years.

Next big taxpayer-funded giveaway will be the Artisphere bailout. Comparable to the Signature bailout.

All this paid for by increasingly stressed homeowners and apartment tenants whose tax bills / rent will increase significantly every year over at least the next 5 fiscal years -- until 2021.

McCaffrey is a tireless promoter of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce -- he's on the Chamber's Executive Committee. Although commercial real assessments have been decreasing, Arlington Chamber members constantly seek more 'gimmes' from County Government, latest were pro-business zoning changes at the last CB meeting.

McCaffrey's employer, InsideNova, has no economic interests in Arlington, apart from its distribution network.

Together with ArlNow and the Post, Inside Nova and the Sun Gazette news and editorial policies can best be described as 'anti community'. Every year we pay more in taxes for a diminished quality of life (more traffic, less open space, more crowding). McCaffrey and other local media VIPs are cheerleaders for the aforementioned 'New Urbanism', together with Arlington's VIP non-resident decision makers who are laughing all the way to the bank, at our expense.

McCaffrey is apparently also siding with the County Board majority (Fisette, Hynes, and Tejada) who don't want an independent internal auditor, although the General Assembly unanimously approved giving the County Board the authority to appoint one.

McCaffrey is another one who trades silence for $$$$.

Then there's Inside Nova's Publisher, CEO, Owner, and Lovable Scamp, Richard L. Connor

Scott's sampling the free buffets at the Superintendent's coronation in San Diego, watch for hard-hitting report about which hotel has the best free food.

ALL the local media trade silence for $$$$

Local media are to local government as Hollywood media were to Bill Cosby.

F Y I -- Summer interns at the Post recommend in August which candidates the Post's Editorial Board will endorse in October.

Arlington's days are numbered. County will crash-and-burn economically within 5 years.

After not riding transit vehicles of any kind other than local buses Scott is in San Diego on the APS junket reporting about how great streetcars are.

Oh, Supe Murphy didn't win.
